Your vessel
The trawler begins fragile and worn-out in Dev Diary #6. It reaches flooded places, carries fishing and scavenging trips, and gives you somewhere familiar to return to. It is useful from the start, but does not provide automatic safety. Read cargo management for the separate danger within its hold.
What supports a voyage
Distinguish vessel upgrades from the gear you carry: a harpoon or medicine recipe is not automatically a boat upgrade. The fishing loop explains catch management, while exploration locations covers resource-search settings. Release status records the source’s access context.
| System or area | Official description | What this means / limits |
|---|---|---|
| Fishing trawler | The vessel carries you between settlements. | No speed or storage specifications are verified here. |
| Trading catches | Catches can be sold and the vessel upgraded. | A tested upgrade order needs prices and comparable voyage conditions. |
| Scavenged resources | Scrap and blueprints are described as valuable finds. | Blueprint locations and recipe requirements are not yet mapped. |
| Crafted equipment | Bait, harpoons, medicines and survival tools are listed. | These are equipment categories, not a confirmed list of boat modules. |

Upgrades named for the October demo
The July 16 announcement describes a Ship Upgrade Skill Tree for the demo planned for October 6, 2026. Its named options are Hull Armour Mk I, two engine options, a fish storage upgrade and a roof-mounted lantern. These give the trading loop concrete progression targets, but the announcement does not publish their costs, engine names or prerequisite order. For the separately verified public access record, see Demo access; the table preserves the July feature announcement rather than claiming tested module statistics.
| Option | Confirmed detail | Still unverified |
|---|---|---|
| Hull Armour Mk I | Named ship upgrade | Protection values and cost |
| Engines | Two options announced | Names, speed and fuel use |
| Fish storage upgrade | Named storage improvement | Capacity and compatibility rules |
| Roof-mounted lantern | Named vessel fitting | Range, power use and unlock order |

Fuel, damage and Sea-Blight maintenance
The same demo announcement describes refuelling at isolated gas stations or using recovered fuel cans. It also lists repairing encounter damage, removing Sea-Blight polyps from the vessel and resting to pass time. These are separate maintenance tasks to consider alongside expedition supplies; the source does not specify fuel consumption, repair quantities or a safe maintenance interval.
Equipment you carry
Lures, tackle, medicines and survival tools support activities away from the wheel. The demo announcement also names a Grappling Hook Gun and Harpoon Launcher. Read survival gear for their stated roles; these carried tools are separate from ship upgrades.
Blueprints and salvage
The official description highlights scrap metal and forgotten blueprints found during exploration. It does not establish a complete upgrade tree or which blueprint unlocks a specific vessel component.

Use this reference to continue from the vessel manual into the relevant guide. It groups the announced equipment by purpose; quantities and recipes remain outside the available evidence.

What remains unknown about medicines
Medicines appear in the announced crafting categories, but these sources do not establish healing amounts, status effects or ingredients. That limits what belongs on a voyage checklist: it can point to the survival equipment overview, but cannot prescribe doses or claim that a medicine counters Sea-Blight.
Follow the next question
Separate survival gear from the vessel itself, then read scrap and blueprints for the exploration side of preparation.
Read upgrades by their purpose
The announced hull, engine, storage and lighting options address different parts of a voyage. A storage option belongs with cargo management; lighting belongs with visibility and the time of day; an engine belongs with movement. This is a way to organize the information, not a tested claim about which upgrade offers the greatest benefit. The announcement names two engine options but does not provide enough comparable specifications to rank them.
An expedition has a return journey
The sixth diary ties the vessel to returning from fishing, scavenging and land exploration. Upgrades are intended to improve reliability; personalization and repeated use are intended to build attachment. Farther from inhabited areas, particularly at night, that familiar boat remains exposed to danger. The trawler development report explains the design; it does not establish a safe radius or maximum travel range.
